Oak leaves have historically been used as plates for holding food. When these began to be offered to the gods, the oak gained a reputation for being sacred. It is said that priests were the first to use oak emblems, and is still commonly seen by those in that profession.

Japanese gentian

The leaves of this plant look similar to bamboo. This emblem is famously used by Murakami Genji.
