The chrysanthemum is used as an emblem for the imperial family, ever since the Emperor Go-Toba from the Kamakura period. In the 4th year of Meiji period, all non-royal use of the emblem was outlawed.
Karabana
The karabana is a fictional plant, but a flower pattern that originated from the Chinese mainland. It is used by the imperial Kan'in No Miya family.
