Chrysanthemum

The chrysanthemum is used as an emblem for the imperial family, ever since the Emperor Go-Toba from the Kamakura period. In the 4th year of Meiji period, all non-royal use of the emblem was outlawed.

Holly olive

The holly olive were thought to ward off disasters, and were thus used as family emblems.
