Oak

Oak leaves have historically been used as plates for holding food. When these began to be offered to the gods, the oak gained a reputation for being sacred. It is said that priests were the first to use oak emblems, and is still commonly seen by those in that profession.

Turtle shell

This emblem is a pictorial representation of a turtle's shell. These are often used in shrines as a divine emblem, and are common in the Izumo region.
